Kolkata receives most of its vegetables supply from rural areas. Rows and rows of trucks line up filled with cabbages,potatoes,eggplants,pumpkins and any other vegetable available in the season. Men start unloading the big trucks in the morning carrying 50 kg at least each time as the market is open 24/7 and people are working in shifts of 12 hours or more for a little money, around 7 dollar a day. Most people are migrants from Bihar and they are lucky if they can visit their family once a year.Most men around age 40 are forced to retire due to heavy lifting and heavy loads they carry.
