The staging of the Goroka festival started back in the nineteen fifties.
It was first introduced and organised by Australian Kiaps.
These days the Goroka show is partly a tourist event, but it is a rare opportunity for travellers to experience the customs of over a hundred tribes that populate the Papuan New Guinean Highlands.
